  • Arctic Animals on Ice

    MATERIALS

    DIRECTIONS

    • put an Arctic animal in a shallow Tupperware container

    • fill with water about halfway up the animal’s body

    • put in the freezer

    • once frozen, run the animals under the cold water for a few seconds to loosen the sides

    • put the animals in a container and watch them slide across the ice!

  • Polar Prints

    MATERIALS

    DIRECTIONS

    • paint your child’s hand

    • press on to blue paper

    • once dry, cut out the handprint and add a face, eyes, nose, and feet

  • Contact Paper Mitten

    MATERIALS

    DIRECTIONS

    • cut out a large black mitten-shape

    • then draw a smaller mitten inside and cut it out leaving about 1.5 inches for width (you are essentially making an outline for the contact paper mitten)

    • cut out a mitten shape on contact paper and remove the backing

    • stick onto the outline

    • use cut tissue paper squares and press them onto the sticky part of the contact paper

    • cut out the animals and press them onto the mitten as you read the story!

  • Marble Mitten Painting

    MATERIALS

    DIRECTIONS

    • cut out the shape of a mitten on white paper and lay it down flat inside a box

    • put a marble and paint in the box

    • have your child shake the box so the marble mixes around with the paint

    • remove the paper and let it dry

    • once dry, mount the mitten on black paper

    • glue on cotton balls to the bottom

  • Mitten Sensory Bin

    MATERIALS

    DIRECTIONS

    • fill a bin with shred filler and cotton balls

    • add the animals and mittens

    • read the story and practice acting it out!

  • Ice Painting

    MATERIALS

    • ice and/or snow

    DIRECTIONS

    • put snow and ice in a container

    • use paint to make different colors on the snow and ice!

    • a fun way to engage in snow play inside!
